Baptismal Ministry

The celebration of each and every baptism is a community celebration. As we welcome infants into the Body of Christ and their parents make promises to raise them as disciples of Jesus Christ, it is not just a special occasion for the family, but for the entire parish community.

At the Church of the Good Shepherd, parishioners of every age and state in life are invited to be a part of our baptismal ministry to welcome families to our monthly celebration of baptism. Each month on the Fourth Sunday (except during Lent) at 1:30 p.m. we celebrate the sacrament of baptism, and we invite you to be a part of that event.

Members of the baptismal ministry greet the families and extend hospitality. They introduce themselves and welcome the families to Good Shepherd. They show them where to sit and guide them through the rite. They participate in the rite by reading scripture and assisting the deacon. They fuss over the babies, congratulate the parents and in general serve as the welcoming face of the entire parish community.

The time commitment for serving in our parish baptismal ministry is minimal; a training session and then one hour a month. But you will make a difference in how families experience a day they will remember for decades.
