Bring in Your Blessed Palms

Lent will be here before you know it! It’s time to collect our palms from past Palm Sundays and bring them to the church so they can be burned for our Ash Wednesday ashes. In this way we take a symbol of celebration and burn it to create a symbol of repentance. For the next two weekends, February 2-3 and 9-10, baskets will be placed on the altar steps for your old palms. There you are invited to join us after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on February 10 for a brief ceremony to burn the palms. These are the ashes we will use on the following Wednesday, February 13, Ash Wednesday.

Did You Know

The Personnel Files of Accused Priests Published on 1/18/2013

The Archdiocese has complied with a Retired Federal Judge’s 2011 order to edit the personnel files of priests accused of sexual abuse, prior to those files being released to the public. The judge’s order was the result of a process that attorneys for abuse victims and the Archdiocese agreed would be accepted by all parties involved. It is important to note that the judge’s order specified the edits in part due to what he said were demonstrable positive changes the Archdiocese had already implemented to its policies and procedures in reporting abuse to authorities and in training personnel and children in abuse prevention techniques. Much of the information in the files is decades old and has already been the subject of in-depth coverage in the press and was disclosed by the Archdiocese in the 2004 Report to the People of God. There is no priest in ministry who has been found to have abused a minor.

Together in Mission 2013
A Time for Reflection

Together in Mission provides substantial financial support to 35 parishes and 52 schools in our Archdiocese. These parishes and schools provide education, ministry and a Catholic presence for tens of thousands of our sisters and brothers.
Sometimes it is difficult to envision how your pledge can help so many people. But, it does! And, many children would not have had the chance at a Catholic education and a better life if it weren’t for your kindness and generosity.
The theme of this year’s campaign is “Love never fails.” 1Cor 13:8 – Together in Mission provides an opportunity to show our concern for those served by the parishes and schools that need your financial support.
As always, what you give should be given in gratitude and thanksgiving for what God has given you. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.
