What Goes In That Whole Foods Bag?

You’ve probably noticed a stack of grocery bags at the end of the pew. Here’s what we’re up to:

Please take a bag. Bring it back any Sunday during Lent filled with non-perishable groceries for the poor. When you bring the full bag to Mass, keep it with you at your seat. At the offertory procession, when the bread and wine are brought up, go to the back and join the procession so that you can put your gifts before the altar. Include the whole family!

Our hope is that we’ll see many different parishioners offering gifts for the poor on Sundays throughout Lent. It will be a celebration of giving and also a nice way to remind others to bring their bags back too. And what a great and fun way to teach children the importance of giving! Feel free to participate more than once during Lent if you like.

All the food collected will be provided to the community food pantry at St. Joseph Center. We’re grateful to Whole Foods Market on North Crescent Drive for providing the bags for our Lenten food drive. Please thank them the next time you shop there.
